This aint got nothin to do with Speed Racer but I was kinda annoyed about that open call not really being that open as well.
I woulda jumped on that if I had a clue it was going on. . I didnt because, most of the panel arent in my circle of hangouts... and so i had no clue it was going on.
it only irritated me because it was heavy on the gloomy side. I was open minded at the beginning of it and then I just realized it was just repeating itself and steering me to believe we are all these miserable artists on a site we have a choice to not visit anymore yet we still do... I have no clue if it ended on a good note or not because i never ended up making it that far.
For Some reason this open call was on her blog and on on thebackalleys, its pretty much agreed that TBA is nothing a but a cesspool of angst and misguided hatred, and that one spec on the meter is not the definitive,nor are they the cream of the crop when it comes to the best that this site has to offer.

I only went to TBA because when I posted on my blog all I had so far were submissions from video game parody artists.

and going to TBA is like putting on your ridiculous Peach outfit and going to Afghanistan and interviewing Osama with your microphone, and asking if America bombing their house, is fair and Just. I just got to say I fucking loved this movie! I'm like the only one in my group of friends who's seen the original cartoon, and the movie was pretty faithful: Over-The-Top races with visuals that would rival an acid trip. I only got to say that whoever played Trixi (was it Christina Ricci?) just didn't seem right for the role, but that's just me. Anyway, I'm glad someone sees the good in this movie that so many reviewers and critics didn't.
You know, I never got around to seeing it. I mean, every movie is pretty much on my "too watch" list, its just how I am. Though, some have higher priority than others. Unfortunatley, Speed Racer wasn't high on the list.
I wasn't against it, oddly enough, I chant the "go speeder racer" line a lot when I'm playing a racing game, or playing CoD4 and i start sprinting in hopes of avoiding death. but for some reason i thought it just looked a bit weird.
But you know, Mindchamber, I usually dont listen to what anyone says whne it comes to movies, because well, I try not to tell people what to watch or what not to watch (though I think people should give most movies at least a chance), so, I will actually give the movie a viewing.
I think you know what you're talking about when it comes to things artistic, and I like to think I do too. So, yeah, there ya go.
GO SPEED RACAH, GO SPEED RACAH, GO. (oh and when I go see Rocky Horror Picture Show at the end of the month, at the part where Brad is pushing Dr. Scott in his wheel chair, everyone chants the same line.)

I agree that Speed Racer is awesome, but i want to point out that it is not completely original. The transitions are VERY much like PANS LABYRINTH, which came out years ago.
nothing is original, pans transitions have been done before, but it was a refreshing take in this type of movie
