They are testing nuclear fusion systems in California right now. If they can get the system to work, we'll have cheap electricity without the horrific by products that are nuclear waste and we can forget about oil altogether. And if that happens, the West can change it's foreign policy and not have to focus on the middle East and Eastern European oilfields.
I really hope it works, but I bet there are whole armies of sabateurs ready to throw a spanner in the works - cheap electricity would be anathema to certain powerful parties

Electric cars or not... The world is still going to blow up. The air is full of pollution and we're already reached the limit of pollution this world can take. The only thing we can do to save ourselves is go to another planet or if we survive on this earth then everything would rely on electricity, no fuel, no gas... nothing.... but still these cars are great, their design is kinda sweet too :)
Id rather have an elitric helicopter.
Taking the Tesla Roadsters components (and assuming retrofiting it so it works on a helicopter) and modred Li-Po Batteries it could actuly fly for 5 min. 10 years later, itll be up there.

I have to wonder if an electric car would be of any use at all in northern climates. I big part of the combustion engines appeal comes from the fact that you can heat the compartment you sit in.
These cars do seem to mostly come out of the south west. I'm not all sure they have everyone's interests in mind.
