Hell ya Street Fighter Controller I HAVE GOT TO GET ME ONE!!!!

yOu PoInt MissAH!!

I remember you have mentioned it a good while back. I just never got around until now sense you gave a link.

Anyway thx.

I'm really planning to push the use of Joy2Key with my next platforming game, but if the next version of flash supports usb interfaces that would be fantastic.

cool

Hmm, I've always felt more comfortable using my keyboard than joysticks or other console controls. For multiplayer games this might really come in handy though, thanks for the linkage.

unless you like to rub shoulders, this is pretty much the only choice for local multiplayer

OK ILL TRY TO BE LESS OF A RETARD NEXT TIME JEEZ

I didn't imagine this topic would spark such a back and forth. I remember playing Meatboy when it first came out and there was a suggestion about using your xbox controller to play and that it was more fun/challenging that way. At the time, I was really sad because i (like most of my friends) didn't have an xbox.

I can understand what Egoraptor's point is (or what i think it is). If i saw a game that REQUIRED an xbox controller and this joy2key dealy i would be kinda pissed. I don't have any kind of usb hookups so i would be able to play said game.

However, I see nothing wrong with games like Meatboy that say "you know, you can play with a controller too for a different feel." It reminds me of when i first played DOOM with a Joystick, and when i first tried (and failed) to play X vs Tie without a joystick.

Basically, i think that if someone feels the need to use flash (which is becoming a more powerful gaming language each year) to make an extremely complex game that requires a controller to play, i'd be sad and wouldn't play it; thousands of others with the right set up would play it. Someone mentioned earlier that using a controller for flash games is like guitar hero on the DS. I wouldn't say that at all, because the DS controls are very bizarre and require some creative designing around them; using a program that strait up replaces your keyboard with a controller doesn't effect the game design at all.

Now, if you were trying to play flash games by rubbing your balls on a wacom tablet, then that argument of counter-intuitive controls might stand...

tl;dr I typed too much.

Ya, My problem with ego's speech, (originally) was that he felt Flash games needed to keep in their place, which was casual games you play with a Keyboard, He changed his tune and basically said He wouldn't play a game that only used controllers.

Two totally different statements .

Thing is Flash games have long past the era of piont, and click, Mouse and keyboard control, and has moved on to almost complete arcade emulation. So controlling these games need to evolve as well.

I'm pretty sure anyone out there with a large mame library wouldn't want to play those arcade games with a keyboard unless they HAD TO.

so while I always mean for this to be more as an enhancement than a requirement, that will inherently change on its own, in spite of whatever is said here.

Haha!
I loved this post!
It's really, really funny reading your replies MC. And also reading Egoraptor (my idol in flash movies ^^) over-brained rather (to me) illogical statements/opinions.

I myself would find it nice to have the option to play a game with a controller instead of the keyboard, as long as it doesn't REPLACE the keyboard, which it apparently doesn't. I understand both statements, but I find Egoraptor's "ideal" in this matter illogical, though this evolvement in Flash history doesn't really change much; it only adds yet another opinion.
I find it great, and I'm grateful for you telling us about this program, though I've never even heard of it.

I'll definetely download this program at this instance (well, not really. I have to post this comment first) and try it out! I have this really old USB controller lying around here somewhere. I just hope it still works!

Anyways, keep the discussion up! I'd love to come back to smile and giggle some more!

ya, Poking Ego is fun, hes he gets sad easily hehe

I should check what I write more often <.< Deleting my errors ^^

I meant option, not opinion :P

I also forgot to say: cute controller ^^

lol

Great idea! Works awsome!

Does it work with wii and ps3 controllers?

it works with any controller that can be connected to the PC

A lot of people prefer keyboard and mouse to controllers, thats one of the main reason I gave up console gaming, mouse and keyboard allows more choices. I can reason a joystick could beat a mouse with movement where the mouse fails and keys aren't really pressure sensative. I haven't played a flash game where a controller would honestly improve my ability to play it, maybe a little but it would lack in other areas and nothing has been so affected having a controller would improve it.

well thats you. Personally I cant play any of these flash brawlers comfortably on a keyboard. the attack buttons are usually ASD, and the movement is Arrow keys.

that's totally backwards from a controller, and unnatural for me.

Da Pink Knight was fucking epic, man. I got a fuckton of medals upon completing it.

sounds like you rocked it, congrats

I should try FPA with this

Ah, so THAT's why The Pink Knight felt so awkward; It's developer was thinking in console game terms.

Oh well, I don't intend on buying a 360 or a PS3 any time soon anyway. There are plenty of good, full games made for PC without buying a whole new system. It's perfectly possible to make a game where the keyboard and mouse are the most effective controls; generally people making games for computers try to do that.

Pink Knight felt awkward because it goes against the urge to buttonMash,

has nothing to do with the controls, good try tho.

wow
what a way to become a real game geek
thanks mindchamber
:D

xellon's Medals

Medal Score: 1470

umm ya..... we both know who's the Geek here.

street fighter!!!!!Ilove it!!!!!!

PoInt MissAH!!

I play with my the mouse in my left hand and the keyboard spun around the wrong way for extra-hard mode.

Thanks a lot Mindchamber. I'm now thinking about doing this for my future Flash projects.

Pfttt screw that I'm hardcore, I got all my Pink Knight medals with the keyboard. Although I'm quite used to playing a lot of games with the keyboard, I have found myself using the gamepad option on a lot of freeware though. Perhaps it's about time I DL Joy2Key.

Also that's a hot controller you got there.

yey
