I get it, which is why I said that whole last paragraph of my way too long reply, to elaborate what I'm talking about, as you did and our points are out there and clear I'm gunna go kill myself now.

lol, make sure you do it in a funny voice when you do

I do every time.

Actually my big dumb head has something else to say.

You said most flash games these days are just imitations of old console games which use a controller. Alright I see this as a valid point but from my standpoint I see that as being a poor use of mediums. By my argument then making an imitation of a console game would be better for a console, or a downloadable game. If you make a game for flash the implications are that the keyboard or mouse or both are the best option for control but the very nature of the game you're making implies they clearly aren't and there's therefore conflict in design principles.

It was a poor choice for the developer to make a game that was meant to use a controller for a medium that is almost never associated with the use of controllers.

BUT this does not change the fact that these games exist and you do have the option of using the controller and I'm sure people will and your post inspired a lot of people to do so and that's all great, but I think it's important for developers to realize that it's probably a bad idea to deliberately make a game specifically for use with a controller in Flash even though the possibility exists because there are better options.

If you REALLY wanna get anal, Flash wasn't created for either Games or movies.

BAWWWWW

Also no matter how well a game is designed for keyboard, there are people out there that don't even play flash games, because they pigeon hole for the same reasons you do, but they may NOW actually give a s certain game a chance because they are more comfortable with a pad..

Huh? How about them apples? HUH what?

Also I'm pretty sure Adobe plans to have gamepad input support within the next version of flash, so all this jibberjabber is moot.

I don't get it, this post has nothing to do with robots or fat chicks. What's wrong Chamber?

Oh and yeah, Xpadder is pretty swank. I use that for GGPO.

come to the office unannounced again, and Ill fuckin stab ya.

I'm not pigeon holing, I have a gamepad and use Joy2Key for everything. I'm just making a neutral argument. Flash as we know it is not controller friendly, it is just a social stigma, not an physical impossibility, so it would be unwise for a developer to think otherwise.

Let's say for example you create a beautiful oil painting, but try to make it look exactly like it was done in watercolor. It's beautiful and great, but you could've done it a thousand times more easily in watercolor. That's what crossing mediums is to me and that's why I think it's silly to purposely work a suggested controller option into a flash game. There are just better ways to do it. It'd be just like saying playing Halo 3 on the 360 is better if you hook up a mouse and keyboard. It's silly. It's not impossible, and sure, it'll make the gameplay experience better, but the point is that the developer made the decision to use the 360 medium, so it should take advantage of that medium over another.

I understand Flash has a lot of edges over other mediums, I like using Flash, so I can see why developers would want to use it other mediums, but my point is that it's silly to make a Flash game solely with the intention of controlling it with a controller.

Maybe it will change in the future. Like you said Adobe is making changes to support it? That's neat. I'd like to see how it pans out.

I'm not trying to bite your throat dude I like you I'm not being malicious here!

NiGGA SHUT THE FUCK UP, HOLIE FuCkiN SHIT, GO FUCKIN DRAW OR SOMETHIN.

I love joy2key! if only i had a better controller though :/

You know what, I think we should just hold hands and sing a song.

WHO Da FuCK ShoWeD you SkeEt FightTER? STamper DIdnt HE DOESNT EVEN FUCKIN KNOW YOU.

I've been playing all kinds of games on my xBox360 controler for the past few weeks.

also too bad there wasn't a way to share controller settings for a 360 controller.

ex: you send us a link to a file that when used sets up our 360 controllers to play ng rumble.

Wow Thanks Now i Need To Go Out And Buy One Like Yours Thanks For Keeping Uf Informed

Ha way to keep up an oppinion Egoraptor.

Also, MC i worded my post wrong, i of course had the controller in and it wasn't "being found" so im kinda at a loss here and wouldn't a later version of DirectX work just the same?

"Ha way to keep up an oppinion Egoraptor."

YEah Totally, HAI GAIS I FEELZ FLASH SHOULD BE USED WITH A KEYBOARD,

PS, I use joy2key for everything BUT THATS NOT MY POINT!!!

Lulz

A good analogy would be to say that making a console game in Flash is a bit like making Halo Wars for the 360, or Guitar Hero for the DS. Like you're swimmin against the tide there.
I don't think he's saying Flash games should be small and shitter than console games, I think he's just sayin they should be intuitive and accessible- And adding controller support directly opposes that.
Of course it'd only be an optional thing in any game.

Yo I'm just paraphrasin all this.

how is adding the option for controller support counter intuitive?

That's just retard talk, Also I guarantee anyone that plays a flash fighter, brawler, platform, or any flash game with its roots in consoles or arcades, (meaning not mouse oriented) is gonna admit a controller feels more natural after playing on a keyboard.

He saying its a flash game and flash games are meant to be played on keyboards.
and well... thats just bullshit.

I knew that controller I found would have a use!

I'm so going to try this out :D Thanks MC!

I have that and <3 it, you just reminded me I need to get pink knight medals, :D

Hmm... Nice.

Well, being the gadget-addict that I am, I disassembled a very old controller, I'm busy determining what wires are what before I measure up the electricity needed to run it and then hook it into a USB cable that the head was torn off of, never bothered to fix the cable, anyone who reads this, I might Youtube the "maiden voyage" of my boot-legged USB PS-One controller...

"The keyboard really has become somewhat obsolete for anything of more the most casual of games."

I play GTA4 and Battlefield on my keyboard? And that's not that bad.

fixed

I must be a complete moron, because I cannot set controls for my gamepad. It's reading my pad, and I have the latest DirectX, but when I try to assign the buttons it doesn't work. Any idea what's going on?

make sure you know what button number is what on your gamepad, then assign them a key, also if you are using the D pad on your controller make sure you turn on PoV switches. and add the arrow keys to them, just like the sample I posted.

I have no idea what you're talking about lmao.

Oh wait, yes I do. Right.

I forget.
