MindChamber's News

Posted by MindChamber - November 19th, 2011

Here I am halfway through my life cycle and Im dont think Ive ever been as invested into a single genre/style of music as much as dubstep. What the fuck is it? I love all the old songs from my time, but never has a type of music spoken to me as directly as dubstep.

Its the sounds of robots talking, its a subliminal intergalactic message from Aliens, what ever it is, it makes my hairs stand on end, my eyeballs roll back, and my chest hurt.

when dubstep samples contemporary music it files it down to a nice sharp polish. Most of the time pulling out the very essence of the song thats lost its meaning by the time its even released

Then it takes that pure crystal of emotion smashes it to the ground and chains it back together for its own nefariousness means.

To me the soundscape of dubstep is a glitched out, wobbled mirror world of our dull existence. A surreal world of magic and purity, that can be seen and felt without drugs (though Im sure they help).
Sometimes, it makes me extremely angry, or extremely sad, and even at times invincible. I never saw my self as bi-polar but play some dubstep, and I start glitchin in and out of emotions faster then a broken NPC in LA Noir.

The sounds used in dubstep not only pleases but physically moves me, It's probably the closest feeling Ill get to being hit with magic from Wizards we only read about in our fairytales.
With each wobble, growl, push ,glitch and reverb, I feel my soul pulled from my body, then slammed backed so hard my lungs are pushed up my chest.
I finally understand what it must've felt to be one of those fainting Micheal Jackson fans at a concert.
While I have yet to pass out from the sheer power that is dubstep, it does tend to build up in me , the pressure tighter than diving 30 feet underwater. I usually have no choice but to yell out WHOOOOOO, like Cole train from gears of war, in order to relieve the pressure.

Some say dubstep is just a type of DJing and not a form of music, and for some that may be.

But for those producers that know the magic of dubstep, the ones that know how to do it right.

They are more than producers, they are the messengers of Gods.

I fuckin love dubstep.

In other news, The short movie I made over july was nominated for 3 awards at the projecttwenty1 Film festival,

Best Concept,
Best use of the Element, (you're given a phrase or word that you must incorporate into the short)
and Best animation.

I won for Best Concept, (yay)

*PS the music used in this trailer was made by DjMossy

I was lucky enough to enlist the talents of a few NG celebs

CosmicDeath really tore it up as the main character.
Timmy did an excellent job as supporting actor
Oskua helped me with compositing and materials
RicePirate ripped it with his voice over narration

and shadow6nothing9's music really tied everything together perfectly.

So I wanna give a big thanks and a huge shout out to these guys for all their help.
hopefully we can do something again next year, or hell possibly sooner, making short films is
easily more frustrating and yet just as rewarding (at times moreso) than doing animated skits.

I'm still unsure how it works pertaining to uploading the full short for the public as the festival has the short on DVD for sale shortly after, but once I know I can Ill link to it.

PS: anyone interested in seeing the full short, vote Ten Please lol

Sup gays

its that time again, Im doing a short film for a local flim comp, and I got a few lines for a nice rustic sounding old voice...

Any takers?

He needs to be male, and a bit weary..

some samples

jeff bridges in tru grit
Rutger Hower in Hobo with a shotgun, lol
Liam Neeson

so yeah old, distinguish and a tad weary.

just dont give me Mr Turtle

PS: if some of the lines dont flow, you can improv it as long as it still holds the same meaning.

some times writing it and reading it out become two different beasts

UPDATE: I already have an awesome submission... Im waiting on 2 more to make my final decision, but Im good for now. thanks guys.

So Osuka and I are planning to tagteam his next NG 3d project, which will consist of the winners from his 3D munny competition
I meantioned the idea of making it viewible in 3D as well. I mean sure, its a gimmick but its a fun gimmick .Obviously there would either be two versions of the animation, or a hefty animation with options to play both.

So on my free time I rendered out the final QTE sequence from the Mbot game's final boss, and the results were pretty good

So I guess the real question is, what do you guys think?
should I save my loot and not bother grabbing the 3D conversion software, or would it be worth your time to grab one of them dollar paper red and blue 3D glasses for a lil NG 3D fun?

2 3D or not 2 3D

Submitted tracks will be posted to this page as they come in. Format your track title like this: "NGHH'11 - Comp - Username" Make sure your track description contains what is required from the comp you are entering.

NG Sample Battle
No submissions yet.

Every element in this submission needs to be sampled from the NG audio portal, even the drums and bass. In your submission note which tracks you sampled and what you sampled, then link to it. If you can't explain where a sound came from you will be disqualified. Also, don't just copy and paste tracks together, really try to cut them up and turn your samples into something new.

Tag Team
No submissions yet.

For this comp an MC needs to partner up with a producer to double team a track. The MC's need to use as many of the words as they can and will be judged on correct usage, pronunciation, and the quality of your rhymes among other things. The producer has to build their track with the Sounds to Include. You can have more stuff in your track, as long as you hit upon each sound. These don't need to be samples, you can try and just mimic something. In the track description MC's need to post their lyrics and producers need to explain what they did for each sound.

MC Topic: Hip Hop is not Dead
MC Words to use: megalomania, vicissitude, WikiLeaks, Ithyphallophobia, Dr. Strangelove, floccinaucinihilipilification, Occam's Razor, serotonin, Charlie Sheen, syncopation

Producers sounds to include: Film Noir, Miles Davis, and a Cartoon theme song.

Sample Battle
Download the sample pack here: http://www.mediafire.com/?sjq6t585ksiw dfi

You can ONLY use audio from this pack. You must use the drums and bass in the kit, you may NOT use anything of your own. In the track description describe what samples you used and what you did with them. Diversity is key, try to really chop these things up and mash them all together. Transitions and a beat that varies is nice too. Download and get choppin!

The Shoulders of Giants
No submissions yet.

This is a comp for producers and the end result should be an instrumental track dedicated to a famous hip hop producer. There are no rules regarding what audio you use in these submissions. VSTs, your own recording, samples, whatever. You have to mimic the style of the hip hop producer you chose. In your track description you need to link to a few examples from this producer and then explain what you did that was based on their work

New York Television Festival

My friend just linked me to this, and I thought it would be a good idea to share it with the rest of you guys.

(just make sure to read the fine print as Im sure they rape you of all your rights to whatever you are submitting)

Anyways, I was getting Some voting fatigue with all the front page posting turning into

"Hey guys, sign up to a site you'll never visit again, and vote on my submission to a contest I didn't tell anyone else about to better my chances! lol"

I thought I'd mix it up and post the actual contest first.

I think I might be submitting to this as well, but vote for me ONLY if you like what I've submitted.

Madness Divinity
Been quietly chipping away at Madness Divinity. Unfortunately I got caught up in other projects and missed the deadline. The good news is I ended up adding an extra 30-40 seconds of story. It really gives it more of a short movie vibe than say With my Minds madness. Its the least I can do after Bjra kicked so much ass with the song he created for this short. Also, I plan to have Hank talk in this one, which is a nono I know, but it really adds some much needed gravitas to the action.Tomamoto is taking a shot at Hank and I cant wait to see what he comes up with. I still need one more voice though. The voice of God. Or Goddess, since its a female . If anyone out there can do a nice earthy Female voice. Something Similar to the Voice of the Locust queen in Gears or War or, the Borg Queen from Star Trek First Contact. i would love to hear from ya.

Short Movie
Originally MD was suppose to be released on Madness Day, but alot of my free time was being used to edit a short movie for a local contest in Philly. That contest has long come and gone, but I was never happy with the submission as some of the scenes were incomplete. I had forgotten to buy this for doing my composition shots, so now I have to manually mask each frame. It did get get props for best music and animation. So let me take a minute to thank xKore for letting me use his music on that short. I should have that short up on youtube in a few weeks. Also a big thanks to the voice actors, Sapphire did an excellent job

Artist/ programmer Bromance

After my next project I'm looking for a programmer to go steady with :3 Something hot and Steamy like the TommyUtah or the BomLuis love. Someone whos good at making all sorts of games, but is partial to Brawlers, fighters, and beat'emUps. I have a platformer/brawler puzzle game Idea that Id like to share with someone's who has the time and is also committed.

Ohh yeah GasMasQ's albums out!

Madness Divinity, movies, voices and Programming Bromance.
